"Catherine Russell's standard of excellence leaves no room for a half-hearted recording. She has the chops to tackle practically anything under the sun- jazz and blues get mentioned as her touchstones but she also has taken on Hank Williams' music with great results. Her phrasing is worthy of study by any singer- she "inhabits" a song.
She is also fearless. Her choice of material might be shunned by any other performer as too "old fashioned" but that's her gift, taking neglected songs from eons ago and letting them breathe again. Catherine is part singer, part music archaeologist!
"Inside This Heart Of Mine" is very well recorded and has the benefit of some brilliant,all-star sidemen. In particular, Matt Munisteri, guitarist and banjoist shines with his tart solos and his comfy rhythm guitar style. Jon-Erik Kellso also beams brightly in the trumpet chair and trombonist John Allred has a gorgeous tone. Incidentally, Matt's CD, "Love Story" is a small treasure.
So, "Inside This Heart Of Mine" is a highly likable offering, done with respect and without affectation.
Pay attention to Catherine- hey, this is a SINGER!"

"This is one excellent collection of songs by one amazing vocalist! Catherine Russell's voice has never sounded better, full of clarity and emotion and sass. The arrangements are tight and energetic, and the overall ensemble just swings and swings and swings. Cat has channeled more moxie into this effort than most people can muster up in a lifetime. Catherine Russell is a treasure, and this CD only reinforces that truth!"

"I heard a clip of Catherine Russell on NPR and loved her voice. I ordered her CD and I'm so glad I did. She sings like a reincarnation of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday combined and her band has this irresistible New Orleans sound like the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The songs are a mix of old favorites and new material, all with witty, bright lyrics and sung with a great interpretation. Most of all, this as a happy recording; it gets your toes tapping and you want to sing along with songs like "Barbecue" and "We the People". Catherine Russell is a real discovery for me and I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes upbeat jazz vocals and old time swing-jazz."
