Synopsis
Album DescriptionDoggone My Time was originally recorded in 1982. It was a special project for me - my first solo album. Both Marcy Marxer and Karrie Potter, who sing like angels on this album were members of Michigan's Bosom Buddies String Band. They were great friends, strong personal support and fine music partners on this project. Marcy is now my fill-time partner and we've done several albums together since then. I can't thank the other musicians enough. We had lots of fun and it still sounds like that to me! In this new edition I've added three new songs. Sara McCutheon is a true story about John McCutcheon's grandmother, Louise. I wrote the song after swapping stories with John one night. Coming Home is also a true story inspired by the book Home Before Morning by Lydia Van Devanter (Warner Books) and I can't recommend it highly enough if you can find it. Women Vietnam Veterans deserve more recognition than they've gotten and this book describes her life in Vietnam and her return as a vetern. The Cuckoo is a longtime favorite traditional banjo song influenced by many versions, especially Clarence Ashley. And thanks to Barry Poss at Sugar Hill Records who believes in keeping good acoustic music alive and well.

CD Reviews
One of my favorite albums An aging hippie | Metro Atlanta | 09/03/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "The LP version of this album, Doggone My Time, has been one of my perennial favorites. From the delicate fingerstyle "My Old Kentucky Home" to the western swing "That's Where the West Begins", I always find lots to like here. I'm going to get the CD just to get the bonus tracks- only 12 were on the LP.If you like bluegrass of any ilk, Asleep at the Wheel, great guitar and banjo work, or Prairie Home Companion you will like this album."
