Peaceful 30 Minute Nap
nomdevoile | Maryland USA | 07/02/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have used this product dozens of times. When I am tired but have no more than 30 minutes to relax, I play this CD through a set of comfortable headphones while lying in bed. I awake refreshed and peaceful. I will not attempt to describe the theory behind this product. The program narrator, Robert Monroe, and the audio technique, hemi-sync, used to induce a sleep-receptive state can be researched at www.monroeinstitute.com.

The program narrates instructions that lead the listener to a deep state of relaxation. The listener is encouraged to drop off to sleep at any time. In the background are surf noises and innocuous tones that produce the hemi-sync effect.

Of the many times I have listened to this tape, I failed to fall asleep only one time and I slept beyond the thirty minutes only one time. Most sessions I awake feeling sleepy but quickly return to an alert and contented condition before the program ends. This contrasts with a non-assisted 30-minute nap in which I often awake groggy and remain so for 15 minutes or longer. I definitely prefer the Catnapper CD.

I should mention that the relaxation achieved at the beginning of the tape is conducive to the body remaining in one position for the entire 30 minutes. This means I am not prone to toss and turn which would be uncomfortable for the head while wearing a set of headphones.

Stereo headphones or stereo speakers placed equidistant from the ears are required to achieve the hemi-sync effect. If the hearing in one ear is weaker than the other ear, it may be difficult to achieve this effect without a playback device or headphones with a right/left balance control.
