Unless You're REALLY New To Creedence, You Don't Need It
BluesDuke | Las Vegas, Nevada | 07/09/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Of all the asinine posthumous slapdash collections served up since Creedence Clearwater Revival called it a career in 1972, this one is probably both the most elementary introduction to the band AND the most useless of the lot. It's worthwhile for a) those few who really haven't heard a damned thing of this band other than "Proud Mary" or "Travelin' Band" on oldies radio,or b) those whose music library goes by the rule, "If it wasn't in the movies, it ain't music." But for real fans (and they remain legion) - ignore it and get the real stuff. They made six breathaking studio albums (don't even THINK about the abominable "Mardi Gras") and two worthy postumous live albums. THAT is the Creedence library to have."
A Nice Collection...

"My ex-whatever bought me this album for my birthday a couple of years back and it was the only good thing I ever got from her. This is rock n' roll pure and simple. Everyone should have at least 1 album from these guys if only to understand what musical passion really is. Let's get down to it...
THE GOOD: 1) EVERYTHING. On this particular album, every song is a classic. From the down to earth BORN ON THE BAYOU to the moving WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN, you can not go wrong by letting this one play on your CD machine. 2) PASSION. This one's got heart behind every single lyric. John Fogerty is the master of "working man" rock. He fills our souls with just what it is like to be pushed around by corporate america. Every song writer, heck every writer, out today could learn a thing or two just from listening to the way this man composes and the passion in evey line. 3) THE BAND. Once again, this is a prime example of what chemistry can do for you. Like Led Zep. and Black Sabbath, these guys had the right elements and social climate to make them super stars and we, the public, are better for having had them around.
THE BAD: 1) TOO COUNTRY AT TIMES. If there is one critic that can be given to this band, it comes from their B sides. At times, they are a little to country in there sound. But this is only a minor point and should not discourage any and all from running out and collecting this band.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Outstanding, both this album and all the rest. I can not say enough good things about these guys. If you do not own one of their albums then you MUST go and get one; anyone it does not matter. This is a MUST HAVE album for any collection.....and no, it does not matter if you have Kenny G or Michael Boulton right next to Creedence ClearWater."
