CD Reviews

Awesome aural journeys!
Brad Torgersen | Seattle, WA, USA | 02/13/2004

"First off, I would warn you that I am a raving, fanatical fan of CN. I first heard them on "Variables" which used to air on KRCL public radio in Salt Lake City. That was in 1989, and ever since, I've been a total nut for this group. Sadly, their work is hard to find in record stores these days, and they don't have a wide distribution anymore. But Geoff Levin has the production rights on the series now, and all of their discs can be had for a modest sum at the official web site if you can't find what you need here at Amazon. Put simply, CN (all four chapters) is the spoken-word storytelling of actor Geoffrey Lewis (best known as 'Orville' from the Clint Eastwood "Any Which Way But Loose" movies) set to music and SFX by Geoff Levin, Chris Many, and other musicians. Resurrecting a lost art, CN enchants with a unique style and tales that journey from the smallness of the human heart to the vastness of the cosmos. Playful, intruiging, thought-provoking, irreverent, CN is all of these things, and more. Their debut album is still their best, I think, missing not a note as it sails the horse latitudes, catches fire with an old flame, races ski slopes and starscapes, walks through a valley of the soul, and ultimately, converses with God's janitor. (Yes, you read that correctly!) I've proudly owned all four chapters on tape for years, and just recently got them in long-lasting CD. I can't say enough good about these albums. Pure gold!"
Stories, put to music

"This is a very enjoyable listen. I have listened to his album (and their other ones) on late night drives across country. They are captivating stories that keep your attention. The miles just pass by and you wish the album wasn't over. Highly recommended!"
