"It's interesting to read the other reviews on this piece. I find the one arguing with himself whether it is Germanic or French to be irrelevant. In truth, the music speaks for itself and it is a great symphonic body of work. The themes of each movement are beautiful and weave in and out as they are recalled and transparent throughout. The final movement comes to a head of outpouring harmony and elation built up in a dramatic ending.
I believe Lopez-Cabos will be recognized and counted as one of the leading conductors as he expands his recording repertoire. His interpretation of Mahler's 9th symphony demonstrates his maturity and depth. In this recording, he leads the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra beautifully. They are expressive and clear. Lopez-Cabos brings out fine qualities that are often missed or glossed over in other performances of this piece. I recommend giving your full attention to this piece on several listenings and you will find it really does grow on you."

"If you do not own this recording, buy it now! Franck was primarily an organist but this disc of orchestral works is outstanding! His orchestration, voice leading and thematic material are all deeply colored by his close association with the organ. The Symphony in D minor is brooding and often turbulent. Le Chasseur Maudit is a raucus ride that will remind you of a Strauss tone poem along the lines of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". Franck's tunes are natural and infectious. A highly satisfying experience."
