The Mitchells before KAPP

"The Philly-based nostalgia CD outfit COLLECTABLES Records was founded by Jerry Greene. He also owns ALPHA VIDEO. COLLECTABLES reissue of the 1964 COLPIX blue label LP, THE CHAD MITCHELL TRIO AND THE GATEMEN is a fake concert record.
The Mitchells were with COLPIX briefly in 1960 before moving to KAPP. Two tracks here are from their debut album THE CHAD MITCHELL TRIO ARRIVES! The other four are outtakes from those sessions. These recordings have been doctored with crowd noise overdubs (why COLPIX chose to use an audience filled with coughers and throat clearers is baffling).
The other half dozen songs (also given a phony "live" treatment) are by a bunch of unknowns, perhaps studio musicians, that the label called The Gatemen. This group's anonymous percussionist is clearly an amateur. On all six of their 4/4 time signatured songs, this person hits the snare twice on the 2nd downbeat and once on the fourth. That methodical "dun-dun dun, dun-dun dun" noise is maddening. Bring on more phlegm hackers, please!
