Yeh! >> Taken from Chanté's fantastic CD "Exposed", this lead cut (produced by Jermaine Dupri) is funky and catchy as hell; sassy & contemporary, it shouts out Chanté is back in the ring! Move over Destiny's, Mya, Pink > give the woman some room!The UK garage mix by Sunship is a fast and exciting remix that makes full use of Chanté's vocals; running them over speedy, chopped up, 2 Step beats. The UK Garage sound is an acquired taste but Sunship score well with a tight sound that maintains the high pop element and is guaranteed to make you move. (For more like this >> try the brilliant Sunship mix of Christina's "Come on over" -UK single/ or the Club Asylum mix of Kristine Blond's "Love shy" -UK single.)BUT ... then we get the Junior Vasquez remix! Now this is special -and what so many of us have been praying for! This remix is totally different from Junior's recent Soundfactory & Marathon remixes: it's a tighter, shorter than normal (at only 8 minutes!), retro-feel remake -disco driven by a full-on piano. The vocals ride just right over the bouncy beats, the chorus takes off with a real hands-in-the-air feel and a strong rock guitar comes in for the break and leads into the final climb. Just when I thought Junior was getting boring (Kristine/ Charlotte etc), he scores high with this gorgeous club mix. Hey, the woman can dance as good as Janet or Jen and she looks better than ever > a total knock-out!A top 20 pop hit in the UK, "Straight up" is finally getting Chanté some highly deserved attention -respect is due.
