Great live performance by the real voice of melodic rock

"Live in America is the first ever DVD release for Jorn Lande, one of melodic rock and metal's most electrifying frontmen. He has served time with Malmsteen, ARK, Masterplan and a host of other bands, but these days he's best known for his solo career. Live in America is a Jorn solo show; the only Jorn live show performed in the US. It was shot in Atlanta, Georgia in 2006 at the ProgPower USA VII festival; a festival I was lucky enough to attend.
The main program is a 90-minute headlining set, with Jorn and company going through songs from his various solo albums (emphasizing his then-current release The Duke) as well as some very memorable covers. They took on Thin Lizzy (Cold Sweat), Dio (Straight Through the Heart), Deep Purple (Perfect Strangers) and closed with a killer Whitesnake medley (Come On/Sweet Talker/Crying In the Rain/Here I Go Again/Give Me All Your Love). The footage is very high quality, and you get plenty of shots from various angles as well as close-ups of just about everyone on stage. The sound quality is also very high. It was a great show all-around, and this DVD captures it perfectly. The only omission, and it's an understandable one, is the encore performance, which featured Jorn plus a few guest singers (If I'm remembering correctly it was Lance King, Zak Stevens and maybe one other) doing the Hear n' Aid single "Stars". It was an amazing performance that had half the crowd scratching their head and the other half in total fanboy heaven. I imagine it was left off because of rights issues either with the song or the guest vocalists.
Unfortunately, there is no bonus material on the Live in America DVD, and the packaging is fairly cheap (aside from the always impressive Frontiers artwork). I had hoped for a little more (think video clips, behind the scenes footage, a cool digipack), but I'm still beyond happy to have this awesome show captured on DVD."

"Excellent DVD. Jorn's live performances were actually better than the cd's!! Great sound quality even though there was no surround option. My only gripe about this dvd is the song choices...and what's up with the 15+ minutes of cover songs?? Well worth the buy!!!!!"
