Synopsis

Album Description
In these remarkable transcriptions of Scarlatti sonatas, Charles Avison (1709-1770) manages an enchanting metamorphosis of delightful energy. Concertini and tutti mingle into a genuine musical dialogue in the spirit of Handel's or Corelli's concerti grossi. Charles Avison was an English composer in both the Baroque and Classical periods, and a noted church organist. Avison wrote the first music criticism published in English, Essay on Musical Expression. The Concertos after Scarlatti are his most famous works.
