CD Reviews

They Don't Call Him "Feelgood" Fo' Nuttin'!
The Groove | Boston, MA | 05/18/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I recently spent my lunch hour from work checking out the dance section of my local record shop. I came across this DJ mix CD, not having heard of Charles Feelgood or any of his prior work. But listening to a few samples explained why he calls himself "Feelgood." The soulful textures and percussion-heavy beats make this CD of house music one fun ride. By now, most dance music listeners are familiar with Underworld's trance cut "Two Months Off." But on here, the single gets an underground house makeover that sounds even better than the original. Diva Chaka Khan teams up with Taka Boom on the electrifying "Groove Like That," and Melody's "The Funky Women" has "club anthem" written all over it. You crave for a little Latin flavor? Then you'll find favor with Rick Garcia's "La Luz" with spicy horns and a throbbing drum beat. Feelgood isn't shy about promoting about his own material, for he closes the disc with his cut "I Feel Good." This CD brings to mind an era when house music was all the rage in the clubs, where they would play cuts like these nonstop. It's well-mixed, and the tracks blend into each other seamlessly. Those who want to experience the grittier side of house should consider "Across America.""
