"Charlton Heston, no stranger to Biblical epics on film, has recorded what can be considered the definitive version of the Old Testament on compact disc. Bear in mind this is an "abridged" version although most of the major Bible stories are present, the Story of Creation, the Fall from Eden, Noah and the Flood, Abraham and Issac and, of course, the Story of Moses, the role Heston earned an Academy Award for in DeMille's epic. The recording is excellent and Vanguard, a name not well known outside classical music circles, has done a superb job capturing every cadence and nuance of the actor's magnificent oratory skills.
Heston's narrations pricks our ears and we are compelled to listen reminding us that the Bible is as effective in an oral medium as much as a written one. The vocal music, accompanied by the Robert DeComier Chorale richly compliments this set with such wonderful pieces as "My Lord, What a Morning" and "Oh Lord, What a Beautiful City" add an exciting dramatic dimension to this compact disc set."
