"this is an amazing performance that has been rereleased at a much cheaper price, so i wouldn't recommend buying this original. it's value is for collector purposes only, imo. the new "hmGold" release of this also includes philidor cadet's "marche de timbales" as a fascinating and fitting intro. so, you get one supplement track at less that one-fifth the price.



philidor's marche is listed in the "on this cd" section, but if you'll note the track listing, it is not included. the track listing lists the 29 correct tracks for this release - the hmGold release has 30.



amazon really needs to do a much better job of detailing classical cds. no other music has as much rereleased and/or remastered material demanding supplemental or altogether different information. collectors *require* all of the information to be listed. we need to know if it has been remastered (sometimes noted), if the documentation has been changed (never noted), and if the catalogue number has changed (noted, but almost never correct regardless of release status). i can't tell you how many times i have purchased something based on the information amazon makes available (pictures, release date, etc) and end up with an entirely different release. it's maddening.



anyway, that's an amazon rant unrelated (for the most part) to this particular cd. if you are a fan of charpentier or looking to explore his most popular work, i recommend this performance without reservation."
