CD Reviews

How badly do you need this?

"Made in JAP in 2003, Serial# MHCP-2015, Playing Time 17:21Originally released on 10-inch vinyl back in 1980, this EP came as a limited edition with a bonus, single-sided 7-inch disc, which featured an edited version of "Everything Works If You Let It", unfortunately absent for this CD release.Track 1, a live version of the Beatles' "Day Tripper", has since been released countless times on CD in the same edited version presented here... the full-length version only available, at least to my knowledge, on the "Sex, America, Cheap Trick" box-set.Track 2, a live version of the Rick Nielsen-penned "Can't Hold On", has since been released on the "Budokan II" and "At Budokan - The Complete Concert".The last 2 tracks, "Such A Good Girl" (written by Nielsen) and "Take Me I'm Yours" (written by Nielsen and Zander), haven't seen the light of day on an official CD until now...Both of these leftover tracks, quite different in tempo and style, are easily recognizable as CT songs because they have the trademarks from their late 70s material. They're not gems by any stretch of the imagination, but solid tracks (they're not demos or unfinished songs) with completed production work. You'll have to decide whether 7-and-a-half minutes of "unreleased" music is worth the price of admission... I didn't hesitate, even though I still have my vinyl pressing!"
Good choice if you buy it

"The EP starts with "Day tripper" the best Beatles cover ever heard!! It's even better then the original. This song made me a Beatles fan.I thought:" a band who can write this kind off stuff cant be that bad :-))
"Can't hold on" is a very strong ballad. It's a typical Cheap Trick song and when you hear Robin Zander singing you know what I mean.He makes the difference in this song..
"Such a good girl" takes you back to the " In Color.." sound.(their second album) You'll like it."Take me I'm yours" is also a typical CT-song.Sounds simple but a good listener finds some nice tricks in the chords and lyrics.
Have fun !

JON BRANDT OVER TOM PETERSSON?

"Dude here who would call Tom Petersson a "mediocre bassist" is not a real Cheap Trick fan. Jon Brandt was a fine fill in, but the real essence of what makes Cheap Trick great was the original four members, including one of the rock solid and most creative bassists of all time, Tom Petersson. Smoke that!"
