Che musica bella

"I was given to believe that the "Symphony in D major" was Cherubini's only symphonic piece. Pity! To describe this work as a masterpiece would be to dam it with faint praise; it is well crafted, energetic, nuanced, and quite dramatic, with a musical perfectionism that would seem to be a hallmark of all his work. Opera however, was his real stock and trade and Médea, with its incredibly dramatic, intense, and brilliant overture, manifestly sublime arias, is testimony to his skill. History has not been kind to Cherubini but with musical "nationalism" on the wane, maybe his star will rise again to its rightful place at the highest point in the sky. Kudos to the Symphony Orchestra of San Remo and its conductor, Piero Bellugi, who brought out the brilliance of this music with near flawless interpretation, musicianship, and style. This disc is a must for anyone who appreciates serious music."
Very satisfactory performance & recording

"we are in need of a modern recording of this excellent symphony and this new issue has done the work justice in both performance and recording. Buyers will not be disappointed."
