"First mastered & released in 1975 & 1979 these two albums combined on one CD is Atkins at his best. These were unusual albums because all the musicians are playing classical string guitars. The mix and blend are superb. The title piece is perhaps the best, depending on taste, but all of these selections are worth listening to over and over. I have been an Atkins fan for over 50 years and I have quite a collection of his works. This one is my favorite (on CD, they haven't released the Nashville String Band albums with Homer & Jethro yet).



Good CD, nice price, well worth the investment."

"I love Chet Atkins and classical guitar. When I saw this album, was very excited. "Chet Atkins and classical music together! Wow!" But this CD is not up to the usual Atkin's standards and some of the selections will put you to sleep. I was not expecting "Country Gentleman," or "Dixie," but there is a lack of excitement and contrast to this. Still it is a side of a very talented guitarist you may not have been exposed to previously and if you are a fan, you'll like it. But I just like it, don't love it."

"'The Night Atlanta Burned' presents Atkins and a small string ensemble performing music inspired by a Georgia music conservatory which didn't survive the Civil War. These instrumental pieces are mostly quiet and very melodic, combining classical, traditional folk, and Southern traditions. Think of it as a little warm southern night music gone with the wind. The arrangements and intrumentation are Atkins and company at their best. This CD pairs the Atlanta album with another ensemble collection of pieces recorded about the same time. The second album combined classical, traditional and contemporary pieces but is very much in the same spirit, and the first album segues seamlessly into the second.

When I owned 'The Night Atlanta Burned' as an album back in the late 1970's I wore it out, and have been awaiting its reissue ever since CD's replaced vinyl. The two albums combined here are long neglected gems from Atkins'catalogue and were long overdue for reissue. Buy this one while its still available!"
