"Chick Corea shines best in the solo acoustic piano setting and this is one of his best efforts. The melodies and playing are so free and expressive while at the same time one is also aware of the tremedous technicality that must be involved in the subtle textures in sound that he is able to coax out of his instrument. One of his best solo piano efforts and at a time when he was perhaps at his most creative. You will not be disappointed."

"This is a great album.Chick has a very crisp, and percussive approach in his playing. The tunes are all originals, and as we listen to this cd ,it's very apparent that even as a young man he had great talents as a composer. You should take note that chick incorporates a new harmonic approach at the time,'tertial harmony',chords stacked in fourths,McCoy Tyner,I believe is the 'father' of incorporating fourths in this genre,as replacements,or combinations with the more traditional voicings used at the time, picking and choosing were to replace them ,at will. Overall it is a very ingenious concept. Chick has a great ear for harmonic color and has a very personal sound, immediately recognizable.A very creative player, and a tireless innovator,as all the greats usually are..In volume 1 of a ,two volume set, some notables are 'NOON SONG','SOMETIME AGO,AND 'BALLAD FOR ANNA'.Inspiring music. He has that youthful sound and the music is peppered with a good spirit,it preaches optimism and good will,do what you love, and pour your heart into it,and give it our all.Time flies .It seems incomprehesible these albums were recorded 37 years ago.It makes you feel your age, which I suppose is fine, just like the pleasure of a vintage wine.Carpe Diem.
Enjoy.Health and Happiness

Mellow piano music with a lilt.

"Chick Corea's "Piano Improvisations No.1" is a wonderful CD of solo jazz piano music. I have always loved this one. Yes, it was recorded years ago. The music flows in a mellow improvisational format with no jarring interludes to break the mood. If there is one modern piano CD that I could share with someone on a desert island, then it would be this one."
