CD Reviews

Still Good after all these years

"I bought this cd in 1990 and have been playing it ever since. If you were a fan of early Soul II Soul and Loose Ends, this is a must have for any Pure RB/Soul eficiando. The british do it better that the americans. Some lessons could be learned by listening to this CD. Pauline Henry voice carries such power, you will be overwhelmed by Love So Tender and Love Come to My Mind. The back beats make you either jump up and boggie or just sit back and let the music take over. I could on, so just buy it and you will not be dissappointed."
Withstands the test of time

"I was station in Germany from 1988-1990 and somewhere in there I discovered the beginnings of the Neo-Soul movement with Soul II Soul, Lisa Stansfield and others. I had not even heard this cd when I picked it up in the record store in downtown Darmstadt, but I bought it because I was a huge U2 Fan and just knew that they did a good cover of it. To be honest, for many years it was the only track I really liked. But in all my house cleaning and moving around the world, it was one of the cds that I always kept with me. Every now and then I would put this cd back on and still, only the one track spoke to me. Then one day about a year ago I put it on and finally "heard" the entire cd and how great it was. Now I DJ and my specialty is neo-soul, R&B, old school soul and some hip hop and a few of their songs end up in my line up on a regular basis. Whenever I play the U2 Cover, people line up to ask me who it is. This is a great cd and it came from a time when some people like them and Nellee Hooper and Lisa Stansfield were reshaping soul music. You can hear their influences in everyone from Lauryn Hill to Maxwell to Craig David to D'Angelo. Many people hate the term "neo-soul" because they think it just breaks music down into one more unnecessary category. I disagree because I think there is room for many categories of music. It's all music, but it's not all the same. This is coming from a guy who listens to everything from The Chimes to U2 to Loretta Lynn to Dave Matthews Band to Siouxsie & the Banshees to the Cult, etc."

"This CD is a prime example of great music never going out of style. From the very first time my English friend introduced this sound to me 10 or so years ago until... I will always remember her for sharing something that I never thought would have such a lasting imperssion in my heart. Thank You Emma..."
