"This beautiful Cd, is "Chombo" Silva's only solo recording, first released as an Lp in the 1960s.



All the 10 tunes are by the great mexican composer Armando Manzanero. The group lead by Chombo Silva on tenor sax, includes other fine musicians, like Sonny Bravo on piano, Bobby Rodriguez on bass, Mike Collazo on drums, Marcelino Guerra on the congas, and Freddy Rodriguez on guitar.



It's hard to believe, that an outstanding musician like Chombo, had only recorded one album as a leader in his all entire career. This kind of things are not new in the world of music, but in my opinion, Chombo is one of the most forgotten and underrated musicians in latin jazz history.



Among others, José "Chombo" Silva played with Cal Tjader, Mongo Santamaria, Peruchin, Benny Moré, Some of his recordings with Mongo and Tjader are memorable, especially Afro Blue, I'll Remember April, Close Your Eyes, Contigo and Out of Nowhere.



Besides be a wonderful tenor saxophonist, Chombo also played the violin.



This cd, "Hits of Manzanero by Chombo Silva" is highly recommended. A fine gem."
