Synopsis

Album Description
Children?s musician Chris Hamilton follows up his critically-acclaimed, kid-and-parent-loved Sticky Situations CD (2004) with Boogie Child, an all-new collection of 15 lively, original songs celebrating the sillier side of modern life for school-age kids. Hamilton meets many families who share their hilarious anecdotes and for Boogie Child he took inspiration from those stories to create the songs "I Didn?t Know" & "Mamma?s In the Minivan". He also finds humour in seemingly mundane events for songs like "The Worst Haircut" and "The Dentist" then jumps to total silliness for songs like "Worm Germs", "Silly Songs" and "You?re An Animal!", a current ?hit? at his live shows. Songs like "Middle Child Blues", "Super-powered Superhero" and "Six to Eight Weeks" spring directly from Hamilton?s own childhood experiences. Without ever getting preachy, Hamilton also cleverly works in a few positive ideas about global awareness, co-operation and self-esteem in "Kids Are Kids Around the World", "Let?s Build" and the title tune "Boogie Child". Best known for his humour, offstage Hamilton takes children?s music very seriously. "Kids deserve quality music and quality writing. The parents who buy my CDs should feel like that was money well spent," he says. From the rehearsals and recording to manufacturing he insists that everyone involved treat the project with the same professionalism as a recording for adults. To that end, Hamilton has once again gathered many of his friends in the Vancouver music scene to fill out the sound for Boogie Child including musicians who have played with The Clumsy Lovers, 54-40 and The Paperboys along with the regulars from his terrific back-up group, the Sticky Jam Band. Many musicians were required for the different sounds on Boogie Child because Hamilton crosses the musical map from Rock to Funk, Blues to Punk, Bluegrass to Beatnik Jazz, Ska and even Disco!
