"If you enjoy seeing Chris Isaak live (or are wondering how he is live), then you are probably going to enjoy this album. There is a great selection of songs and enough of his funny little banter and chit chat to make it a fun listen. Song quality is great too."

"If you want to get the impact of Chris Isaak's music, go and hear him live. I did, and this CD, Live at the Fillmore, really rocks when it has to and is mellow when it needs to be. Chris' great personality shines through on this disc, and his band, Silvertone, shows how important it is to have a talented backup band. For die hard fans, this is a gold nugget, for first timers, you have a lot to look forward to. Simply great!"

"The guys were in top form this night at the Fillmore. Especially useful are "Lonely with a Broken Heart" & "I Want Your Love" which are much more full-bodied than their studio versions...."Move Along" and "Western Stars" are two deeper cuts that are nailed this night...of course, the well-known hits like "Wicked Game" and "Blue Spanish Sky" work just fine too, but this is about as good an introduction to the Isaak concert experience as you can get w/o being there....lots of high energy rock, gorgeous ballads, and a weird, quick sense of humor..."

"From what I can remember from the Fillmore 08, I know everyone says the accoustics are legendary, but all I can remember is that it was very loud and though the guys always sound good, there wasn't a lot of separation between the instruments (specifically due to the accoustics there).
I'm really glad they released this LIVE album.
The recording sounds a lot better than it did being so up close that night. Really clean.... I know we've all heard the rumors RE: Isaak recording every show straight from the soundboard for GP, and, well, he most definitely did on those nights. Though memory is a little sketchy, I seem to recall filming going on the night I went....so maybe that is still in the works? One can hope...
From what I read about the other 3 nights, the play list from all the nights were fairly close, with the exception of about 3 or 4 partial songs, and about a half a dozen other songs that (encore, etc) that were traded 'round. The ordering of the songs was virually identical to what you see on the hard copy cd release, with the following exceptions:
After Somebuddy's Cryin' CI did a few bars of Love Me Tender
After Best I Ever Had they played everyone's favorite and mine, IWYTWM
After Worked It Out Wrong, CI sang a few bars of If Somebuddy Love's You
BTW, major bummer that Kenney Dale Johnson's version of Nyquil Blues didn't make it on there after Take My heart. I had heard people tawkin' 'bout KDJ singing' this one fer like, ever, and I was lucky enough to actually hear it live that night!! What a real treat!!
On a side note, when you buy the Chris Isaak LIVE at the Fillmore album, you'll appreciate why Kenney is affectionately referred to as "The Metronome". He was that good!! You could literally set your watch by Kenney's keepin' time that night. It just doesn't get much better!?!?
I'll Go crazy and his tribute to Johnny Cash (Guess Things Happen That Way ) got axed : ( but I reckon if there's a *this time*, there's always a *next* time 2...
I'm fairly certain that The Super Magic 2000 and the American Boy boner track medley came after BDDABBT originally.
A few other tracks that didn't make it from various nights were: Only the Lonely, Bonnie Bee (which I would really like to see release on a cd), Notice the Ring, a few bars of Blue Moon, and Forever Blue, and, of course, Going Nowhere and Mr. Lonely Man did end Up as bonus tracks.
Overall levels were excellent.
As it was mixed from the soundboard, I think the cd version sounds slightly better then Mr. Lucky. When you mix from a direct in from the sound board, you're not really able to compress or tweak it a lot (which is like my dream come true!!). I've often felt as though compression is Silvertone and Isaak's worst enemy, though they might not think so.
While the sound of the album may seem a little low on first listen, you can actually turn it up louder with little distortion, which typically occurs on most contemporary studio albums. They did compress it some (cuz it lost a little of the shimmer on Hershel's licks on Take my Heart), but it's not bad.
The beauty of Chris Isaak and Silvertone is that even with a dry or relatively dry unaffected signal (not wet or affected signal), they sound just as good live (maybe better) then they do studio mixes.
High points of the album: Kenney's drummin' ; EXCELLENT sounding album overall; GREAT artwork, especially Isaaks cartoons characters; bonus tracks that could be purchased separately (thank you, very much);bargain price.
Low points: Bad or no cross-over or fades on a couple of the take splices; songs that got the axed; slight difference in levels on a few of the songs (from a previous night??); almost no CI banter (more jokes please: this is sometimes the best part of the whole show!!!); No Nick and Chris Isaak tracks.
Suggestions for next time: Double disker so you can include more songs/w a video disk...
All in all an EXCELLENT album! Don't forget, buy one for yourself, and buy an extra or two to corrupt a friend!?!? You'll be glad ya did!!!!
