Product DescriptionThe baritone Christian Gerhaher, together with his longtime piano partner Gerold Huber, presents the song cycle The Beautiful Magelone composed by Johannes Brahms in the 1860s. Brahms's decision to add to the 15 songs of a narrative, was a very special kind of collaboration on this album. The great German writer and Buchner Prize-winner Martin Walser wrote a modern version of the texts and took over the role of the speaker . For Gerhaher, who regarded the original narrative as linguistically too old-fashioned, a heart-felt wish was fulfilled with this cooperation. The Brahms also used 15 poems from Ludwig Tieck's miraculous love story of the beautiful Magelone and the Count Peter from Provence in 1797 as a model for the new texts.
