Product DescriptionBoth the William Walton and Paul Hindemith Cello Concerti are expansive three-movement pieces employing large forces, and, in the case of the Walton, a vibraphone, while Hindemith in his Finale utilizes s celesta. Swiss cellist Christian Poltera, who has proven himself on several BIS releases, performs the taxing solo parts. As a contrast to these two powerful mid-20th c. scores, Mr. Poltera also performs solo works by these two composers: Hindemiths 1922-23 Sonata for Solo Cello and Waltons intimate, almost meditative Passacaglia (197980), one of the composers last works.
