CD ReviewsGreat songwriting Glenn E. Leahey | the Bronx | 01/16/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "Christine's new album, not unlike her solo album from the 80's has great songwriting...particularly the first five songs on the disk. Musically it is not very challenging...but if you like her voice and think that she is a GREAT songwriter, as I do, you NEED to get this album. " Better than rated by some M. Stapleton | 03/10/2007 (4 out of 5 stars) "Regardless of Fleetwood Mac comparisons, I think this second solo by Ms. McVie is only slightly short of stellar . . . and I'm really quite picky about the music (especially the songwriting) I call really good. Most musicians/songwriters don't make the cut (my favorites are Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Lowell George and David Knopfler -- not quite so much older brother Mark, although I do agree he's quite good). My first listen to this album was enjoyable, my second was a smilefest. If you want to hear Fleetwood Mac, listen to Fleetwood Mac. Christine is still almost "Perfect" (her maiden name). Her voice is magic, the arrangements and production are first rate, and the songwriting is wonderful if not exactly legendary. Hard to expect much more. I rate this as a "must have" for any Christine fan." Mezzo-soprano seduction Kris L. Holt | Plymouth, MN United States | 04/07/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "For one who was supposed to be concert pianist...rare talent would have been lost if Christine had never sang! Oh what a wasted mezzo-soprano seduction!
I also bought her last solo album in 1984 and saw her perform in the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis. The live performance was no different than the studio album. Very enjoyable concert. After all these years, this creative font of music just keeps cranking out tunes and sounds exceptionally good. Interesting to listen to this album and hear the story of Chris' love life over the years. Very creative healthy outlet. Tis a joy to hear every single song on this album. This album more than delivers. When I sampled this album online, I didn't think I would end up with something so solid. This beautiful voice will certainly sing in God's choir one day, but not today! You have to deal with us yet. This album definitely has a Steely Dan vibe and that's cool. When I hear the song "Bad Journey," it reminded me of "The Last Good Time In Town" by Chainsaw Joe of the Eagles. Collaborations possible? If I have any requests for this artist I'd guess it's a flashback to Tusk so I long to hear more of the piano/organ sound, on at least one song, like it did on Over & Over, Sara, Brown Eyes, or Never Make You Cry. Something of the ethereal vibe of the electronic organ reminds me of bagpipes or electronic harpsichord accompanied by a beautiful voice. What a trademark sound. Nevertheless, I think Christine's nephew did a wonderful job of producing this album. I'd hesitate to individually rate each song because the more I listen to this album the more it grows on me to be a solid 5 star album. I have been seduced and you should be too. Rock pop rarely is this perfect. No doubt, touring FM is crying for her." |
