McCabe puts on the fingerpicks for much of this offering, and takes us down the street for a look at bums, bars, rude waiters and hard-working heroes. There?s even a visit to church, and a cemetery. These are done with Chuck?s trademark wit and good humor, but there?s no mistake he?s talking about life and death here, and a few of the songs achieve a poignancy unknown in his previous work; witness one of the songs, ?Minimum Wager? which won the Woody Guthrie competition in 2001.
