"CINDERELLA, the charming musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, was brought to the London stage in 1958, starring Tommy Steele.Because the British public had never seen the live televised version (in 1957 with Julie Andrews), the musical was re-conceived as a pantomime, with several new numbers added to the score. Glamorous singing sensation Yana played the title role, with Tommy Steele in the role of her faithful best friend Buttons.Talented singer Bruce Trent played the Prince, with theatre veteran Betty Marsden as the Fairy Godmother. As with all pantomime, the Stepsisters were played in drag by Ted Durante and Kenneth Williams (from the CARRY ON films). Jimmy Edwards and Enid Lowe played the King and Queen. The numbers run in a different order on this cast album, and the remastering job is quite patchy. Yana sings a winsome "In My Own Little Corner", before joining Bruce Trent for the charming love duet "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?".New numbers written especially for the talents of versatile Tommy Steele include "A Very Special Day", "Marriage-Type Love" and "You and Me", in a duet with Jimmy Edwards. Bruce Trent does well by the new number "No Other Love".Bayview Records has to be commended for reissuing this sparkling cast album; the original Decca LP has long been a sought-after collector's item. Added as bonus tracks are cover versions of "A Lovely Night" and "Marriage-Type Love", performed by Tommy Steele."

"Interesting recording.
Tommy Steele's character of Buttons was created for the show and some songs from R&H Me and Juliet were added.
No Other Love makes a nice additional piece for the Prince. And it is quite fitting.
A welcome addition to the Cinderella musical collection."
