City Boy: Intelligent, Funny, Well Produced and Well Played

"I first heard City Boy in 1976 and followed them to about 1980 then lost track of them. Their lyrics are very well written; enough so that just reading them off the liner notes is very entertaining. For a rock band they show sophisticated harmonic twists while alway remaining very melodic. They have a great knack for changing dynamics in a song and developing more than one melodic theme in each song. It's a type of music that's a bit quirky sometimes because of the subject matter or viewpoint but it infectiously makes you want to sing along. You might say intelligent rock with pop-like hooks. It's also quite well recorded. Their later efforts were really geared toward garnering top 40 radio play (but still bright and well written). I prefer the first album's longer pieces because they don't try to fit into that 3 and a half minute radio oriented format. I also enjoy YES but City Boy is more rock; it's intelligent music with great harmony vocals."
How did these guys miss?

"Alright they had a flash with 5705, but these two albums are their best. Great songs: Moonlight, Deadly Delicious,Sunset Blvd,Hop ki da the Kid,Haymaking Time, Mama's Boy (great hard rock chorus),Walk on the Water,Blue Monday, etc. They are a fun band, good musicians. I believe they were originally a folk band that turned up the amps but kept their excellent melodic capabilities. If you like early Queen get this."

"WOW! I never thought I would see the day. I had always suspected I was not the only City Boy fan on the planet, but it sure felt that way. I have only met three people in my life who had ever even heard of them. The first was that guy who turned me on to them in 82. (Just after we all traded our 8 Tracks for Cassettes) The other is my brother, whom I introduced. The third, is me. Nice to see all the comments here on Amazon. I no longer feel alone! It took me five years to collect all 6 of the City Boy records. All from various used record outlets. The CD versions are a most welcome purchase "City Boy Lives!" Oh. My favorite City Boy song? "Moving in Circles" from the Book Early album. Peace."
One of my all time favorite Mutt Lange produced bands.

"When it came time to get rid of all my old vinyl as I was building my CD collection, there were only 5 albums I saved - my City Boy collection! I used to use tapes of their music to "tune" the sound systems I was running for bar bands back in the Chicago area during the late '70's. City Boy under the production talents of now famous Mutt Lange, had some of the fullest sounds of that era. Great vocal harmonies, rockin' guitars, solid bass and drums, with wonderfully blended keyboard sounds. I can't wait to get the CD's and enjoy some of my best loved music from the '70's!!!"

"You will love City Boy more and more. I bought my first CD with CB in 1982 and I been an admire of their music ever since. No one knows City Boy in Denmark, and what a petty. My favourite album must be Dinner at the Ritz and the five others. Their music will last for ever and it is great that peoples will be able to get to know City Boy via Amazon. No matter what album you decides to buy, you will come back for more."
