"For my money there's no-one to hold a candle to the divine Miss Moore. She has a voice that can do anything. She can caress you with velvety tones or pin your ears back with a belting vibrato. This wonderful collection of songs by Bernard J. Taylor gives her the chance to show her extraordinary range - from the darkness of Nosferatu to the belting ballad from Success and the unusual rythms of Much Ado. I would have given the album five stars if there had been a real orchestra providing the backing rather than synthesisers, but this CD is nevertheless a must buy for people who like great singers and great songs."

A GREAT ARTIST AND GREAT SONGS

"I cannot see how anyone can find Bernard J. Taylor's songs drab or poor, as a couple of the other reviewers have suggested. I think he is the most inventive and melodic composer and lyricist writing today. I think there must be some kind of hidden agenda behind the comments of one of the reviewers, who takes the trouble to condemn all three of his recordings being offered by Amazon.com. If she hates his music so much, why does she keep buying recordings of his music and why is she going to such lengths to throw mud? Those are not the actions of someone who is truly indifferent to a composer. I have heard other people criticising his Mr Taylor's lyrics, but I think a lot of his critics fail to see that he is one of the most narrative lyricists around. There is also a truly poetic quality to a lot of his lyrics, most notably in Nosferatu, while in Success he displays a gift for light-hearted lyrics. I think this recording shows the huge range of Mr Taylor's talents. There are a variety of styles reflecting the subject matter of the different musicals the songs are taken from. There is a wonderfully arhythmic structure to the songs from "Much Ado", giving the songs an appropriate period feel. The darkness of the songs from Nosferatu is haunting. The songs from Pride and Prejudice are again very much in keeping with the period and subject matter of Jane Austen's novel. And they are all magnificently performed by the wonderful Claire Moore, who for my money puts most other stage divas in the shade."
