Traditional Celtic music in it's purest form!
05/20/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Clannad's music nowadays ahs much rock and pop music, but in this early album, Clannad did traditional music in it's purest form. The music formed a Celtic atmosphere that did not sound at all like a studio recording. It sounded like traditional music from the far countryside of Ireland. The instruments, such as the harp, whistle, and guitar, freely played and expressed the music. The Celtic feeling touched the soul! It created various moods, like the cheerfulness of "Rince Philib a'Cheoil", the mysteries of love in "Coinleach Ghlas An Fhomar" and "By Chance It Was", and the suspence of "Rince Briotanach" and "Fairly Shot of Her". The music developed a very natural Celtic setting and mood. Maire's wonderful voice strongly emphasized the Gaelic words and Celtic voice, especially in "Coinleach Ghlas An Fhomair" (which is different from the version of Magical Ring). What more can I say? This music is Celtic music in it's purest form and it transports the listener all the way to Ireland!"
Clannad 2

"Clannad, over the years, has changed alot as a band. They've done alot, and been together a long time. One thing that hasn't changed is their integrity, and that goes for their second ever released album, Clannad2. This album has some of the first signs of their experimentation with jazz and rock into the Irish traditional, and a passion in many of the performances that is incredible. It is a favourite of mine because of their integrity and skill, in spite of this being so early in their career. The arrangements of the pieces(which are all traditional) are fresh and full, especially for the time period(mid '70s) They helped plow the way for many other artists coming out of Ireland, such as Altan, Moving Hearts, and U2 with their "fusion" sound. This album comes highly recommended."
Excellent Celtic vocals and musicianship!

"This is early Clannad, from their Celtic, peppy period. Awesome; I'd forgotten how good they can sound!! The vocals work well together -- mellow yet energizing. This and others of their early albums are well worth the seeking out!"
