"This CD presents a wonderful program of Haskil's aristocratic touch with two of the most lyrical baroque and romantic composers for piano. Much like her frequent chamber recital partner Arthur Grumiaux, Haskil displays a flair for bringing out a very evenly spaced, carefully measured, and altogether thoughtful "line" to the music. She has clearly internalized this music without the listener ever feeling like she has lost touch with its more improvisational aspects. No mistake- this is masterful piano playing.
The Archipel remaster is generally decent, but it is a bit tubby in places, and bends slightly during the louder moments. All in all totally serviceable for early 50s mono sound. This is really a CD for collectors and students: a great record of a legendary player, only losing a star for the occasional sound deficits."
