Best heard when the moon and stars twinkle overhead

"Clare Bowditch has a smooth, expressive voice. It is clear and sophisticated. She writes melodic, thoughtful songs. I don't listen to much jazzy pop, nor am I much of a fan of mechanized rhythms, but Bowditch is such a good musician that it's hard not to like her. This is music to be heard whilst gazing at a big city skyline on a clear night, the moon and stars twinkling overhead.
The New Slang adds pleasant layers to the arrangements. There are no egos soloing out of control to be found anywhere. All the musicians serve the songs, which is a restraint I appreciate. While most of the songs are mellow, they are neither simplistic nor dull. They are all good and will stand up to repeated listening (so the long-term value of the CD remains high despite the import price). Standouts include: "Modern Day Addiction", "A Lucky Life", "The Most Beautiful Lies", "Bigger Than the Money," and "A Little History".
Modern Day Addiction is a nice complement to Clare's catalog. Bowditch is a talented, consistent performer who integrates her smarts and emotions with class and beauty."
