Good new recording

"This is a new recording on Ton Koopman's Challenge Classics label. This features Sigiswald Kuijken, La Petite Bande, a small choir including Maletto and Scavazza and an orchestra on "Specially reconstructed instruments". This recording is good, not quite as grand or sonorous in my opinion when compared to the older Andrew Parrott and the Taverner Consort recording (which is harder to find now). The audio quality is odd on this recording, not as crisp and kind of boomy considering a label known for clear and clean souding recordings. This recording was with particular questions in mind in regards to performance practice and particularly the many questions concerning instrumentation which Monteverdi (according to custom of the time) left little to know indications including "At will or 'con stromenti si placet' as one wishes." This recording is very good and is interesting to see new and more "accurate" performances of this wonderful but interesting work. My main complaint is the audio quality and my cd contains an errata slip with players but nothing in regards to these "specially constructed instruments". No dulcian or curtal in this recording as well..."
