"JSP continues it's bang up job of releasing important early recordings with this Chenier/Garlow/Chavis release. Chenier is generally recognized as the first great zydeco performer and here we get the bulk of his 1950s recordings, which basically defined zydeco as a genre. The piano accordion is featured prominently here. Garlow was a straight ahead R & B guitarist from Welsh, Louisiana, and he delivers some burning R & B here. The surprises are two sides that feature him playing accordion--which may be early than both Chenier and Boozoo Chavis. Chavis is featured on two cuts, both his very first recordings (including a chaotic "Paper in My Shoe"). This is an essential set for anyone who loves zydeco and rhythm and blues. Great material that is hard to find."
