CD Reviews

Stop killin' time and get this short but sweet collection!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Once upon a time, all the work and time I put into my reviews at GameFAQs.com finally paid off. I won one of the five monthly spots for Review of the Month. For this, I was given a $25 gift certificate that I decided to use at Amazon to buy a couple of CDs that I was wanting real badly. True story.I originally wanted to buy two rock 'n roll albums that you wouldn't likely find sitting in a nearby store. However, the day before I was to call out my final answer and actually purchase the ones I wanted, a certain country CD caught my eye. It was this one.For awhile, I've wanted a Clint Black album that had "Killin' Time" and "Better Man", two late 80's classics that I would proudly call favorites, but I also wanted one that had some other greats that I also liked, such as the subtle "Where Are You Now." That's another reason this one caught my eye, and it was cheaper than his Greatest Hits. There really is a great selection included here on Super Hits. The three previously mentioned songs are arguably his biggest and best hits, but there are even more standouts. "Nothin' But The Taillights" and "Like The Rain" are more modern (mid to late 90's) compared to most of the other tracks, and they show that over the years, Clint Black still has the knack for making memorable country songs that will stick with you for years. My conscious mind had forgotten some, such as "Loving Blind," but the unconscious part of my brain remembered them once I heard them again after all these years."Nothing's News" could be a motto song for people who believe their best days are behind them. On the other hand, "No Time to Kill" seems right the opposite. It conveys the message to quit looking back and move on....fast! "Something That We Do" would be a nice wedding song with meaningful lyrics, while "Summer's Comin'" hits hard for me. Its lyrics remind me of how I feel every year once April and May show their faces, and it's pretty catchy too.I pondered for awhile whether to give Clint Black Super Hits four or five stars. Granted, some of his absolute best hits are missing and could've easily replaced a few of the ones that ARE here, such as "When My Ship Comes In" and "We Tell Ourselves." However, when I look around at the majority of the other 'Super Hits' albums, I see that this one is way better than almost all of them in its track selection. I'm proud to say that I own it, and that I finally have my two favorite Clint Black songs in my collection, along with a lot of other great songs."
