"this autumunal offering from Coil is simply gorgeous. "Rosa Decidua" is the center of the album for me. i don't know how Jhon intended it to be, but in my opinion, it's a wonderfully melancholic love song; the pitched down vocal-lyric "you are my shadow" conveys one's painfully honest and tragic love for another. the whole EP is built around very simply constructed tracks...ARP synths, vocal treatments, cellos and mandolins; some disquieting and startlingly subdued("Regal" and "Switches") others oddly melodic("Amethyst Deceivers"). "The Auto-Asphyxiating Hierophant" is both dissonant and melodic."

"let me just add to my review below, with some descriptions of some of the tracks. "switches" is absolutely one of the most frightning, and nerve-wracking things i have ever heard.-there is this sudden, and a suprising "shifting-like" noise, that comes out of seemingly no-where, and will startle you every time you listen to it. (while the backround, is very surreal, and tense sounding). "auto-sphyxiating hierophant" is a very well-done, very dark song, that never lets up it's powerful sound. while, "rosa decidua" happens to be a very relaxing, and flowing song.-which further emphasizes how versitile coil are with their MUSICK. what is most noticeable about the CD, is how it toys with your senses. COIL is a group that will make you re-define "music" and how you percieve it. their "music" may be the most radically different sound from ordinary music, that you will ever hear. this may be my favorite CD from them i own, and is a great way to start out the seasonal-collection.....now stop reading this rant, and just buy it!"
Some of the BEST MUSIC you could ever buy

"i'm relatively new to the coil listening-experience.-(thats what it is)- an experience. yet, i have this ("autumn equinox"), as well as "winter solstice", "gold is the metal", and "musick to play in the dark 2". this is one of the best ones, of the 4. i can honestly say, there is NO other music like this, that i have ever heard. for what this is lengthwise (being about 24 minutes), this is a powerful cd. they do a great job of using sounds to represent the various seasons, and soundscapes, as well as feelings and emotions...how? (you may ask)...- get the cd, and find out. i give it 5 stars because of how good it is, for only having 4 tracks, compared to any other cd this short. it's incredibly well done. worth every cent."
Coil showcase their range

"This is, by far, the best of the "seasonal" releases. By turns experimental (the ululant brilliance of "Regel"), elegantly gothic ("Rosa Decidua", which evokes Dead Can Dance), surprisingly poppy ("Amethyst Deceivers") and downright scary ("The Auto-Asphyxiating Hierophant"), the only relatively weak link is the slightly self-indulgent "Switches" - although, mercifully, it isn't too jarring, unlike, say, the unlistenable mess that is "A Warning from the Sun" from the Summer Solstice release."
