Album Description"The Life of Riley's Brother" is the third album from the modern Celtic folk group Colcannon. The band has been performing together for about a decade, evolving from a beer-mugs-banging-on-tables pub band to the quirky, often introspective performing unit evidenced on this recording. The members of Colcannon draw on diverse backgrounds to present a music that can best be described as New Acoustic Celtic Folk Music. While remaining true to the essence of traditional Irish music- with all acoustic instrumentation, traditional tunes, and songs sung in the Irish language- Colcannon strives to reconcile these elements with the barrage of musical influences that come with being a musician in America today. The result is not a hybrid fusion of styles, but a style of playing and writing that is informed by diversity rather than ruled by it. The music, if you will, of someone who has been around the world and decides they like it just fine at home. Folk music, and the Celtic musical tradition in particular, has always spoken eloquently of the human condition, and the music of Colcannon speaks to modern humans in a way that is both contemporary and timeless. Laughter and longing, despair and hope, frustration and joy... These are the common threads of human experience; the threads that bind us together, that weave through our lives and "The Life of Riley's Brother."
