Excellent followup to Looking For Jack

"Colin Hay has done it again.After sitting on the top of the charts in the 80's, the much-matured Hay brings a Celtic sound to his current offering. Although a group of unknowns, with the exception of Robbie Krieger, Colin has managed to put out his best work to date, including the incredible Men At Work catalogue.As the fiddles and acoustic guitar intro Wayfaring Sons, you will know you're in for something special. Colin's deep songwriting skills shine once again on all these tracks, there's not a bad (filler) song on the whole album."Dream On" is a beautiful ballad and a new version has been re-recorded for "Man At Work", but this version is still my favorite."Into My Life" saw a little recognition in the US in 1989. I remember being in a mall when I first heard it. I rushed to my local record store where I worked looking for the new Men At Work album and was pleasantly surprised."Don't Drink The Water" is a great, punchy tune with an excellent rhythm. "Dream On", another ballad, brings the Celtic touch to a head. Some great stuff going on here."Dreamtime In Glasgow" is one of those simple tunes you just can't get out of your head. While it's hard to single out a favorite song on this album, this may be mine. I can't tell you enough how great the writing on this album is, and it was produced by Colin and Elliott Scheiner, known for his work with Toto, among others.MCA should sell the rights to this album back to the artist, Colin, so he could re-release for all to enjoy. The last I heard, they wanted $7 million, which just reflects how poorly they marketed this album. As I said, I worked in a music retailer when this album came out. I vividly remember receiving 2 CDs, 1 LP and 5 Cassettes and no promotional posters or flats of any kind. Remember how many albums Colin sold in 1982? I never had a problem selling the album whenever I played it in the store."

Second solo release. Maybe his best.

"This 1990 album was Colin Hay's second solo release and the follow up to 1987's Looking for Jack. I was aware of Looking for Jack at the time it came out but didn't know about this one until I found it in a $1.99 bin around 1992. How could an album so great be appreciated so little? Unlike most of Colin's more recent albums which seem to revolve heaviliy around acoustic sets, this one was full electric same as the first solo. The title track is a great start to an album that doesn't have a bad song. It is amazing how a song can take you away and make you see the journey that it is describing. There are many instruments and sounds in this song and is somewhat difficult to describe. Don't Drink the Water is a rocking song that has a mean baseline. This should have been released as a single had he had any kind of support from the record company. Back in My Loving Arms is a great ballad full of emotion that blends a ghostly combination of melancholy and hope. Ya is a mandolin filled tune that ends the album nicely. You don't get albums like this too often that don't have a bad moment. The music sounds so worldy with all the instruments that make up its composition and the words take you to so many places--it really is a journey within itself. This album is not in print anymore. If you can find it and add it to you collection you will be proud. It will not leave your cd player for sometime. Note that this is the only work that was credited to The Colin Hay Band."
