Synopsis

Album Description
Colin MacIntyre, aka Mull Historical Society, the one-man-band songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, has released 3 worldwide critically acclaimed albums under the `Mull Historical Society' pseudonym : Loss(2001), Us (2003) & This Is Hope(2004). So far Colin has achieved 4 UK Top 40 Chart hits and 2 Top 20 UK Chart albums. Colin has also been named Scotland's Top Creative Talent at the Glenfiddoch Spirit Of Scotland Awards. Colin has recently completed album 4: 'The Water', with Lemon Jelly's Nick Franglen producing. He will now be releasing and performing under his own name. This name change does not reflect any artistic changes. The Water is released Feb 2008. At the end of 2007 the London Evening Standard predicted that MacIntyre 'should prepare for greatness'. The Water is an inventive and warm and human collection of songs, a powerfully positive and celebratory album. "It feels a bit to me now like I felt before my first album 'Loss' came out - you just need the world to hear it," comments MacIntyre. This album sees MacIntyre put himself centre stage, and he seems all the better for it. A reinvigorated piece, his most accomplished yet, keen to put the world to rights without forgetting its roots, `The Water¹ is refreshingly cool and deep.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I recently set myself the goal of listening to everything Colin McIntyre has put out so far. He has written some deeply affecting, beautifully crafted, ultimately uncomfortable songs. I like far more than I dislike but I have struggled to allow myself to enjoy the painfully pretty and precise nature of his music. It reminded me of what was so scary and exciting about the Delgados when I first heard them and what made certain kinds of song from 70's pop radio stick in my head as a kid. MacIntyre's songs can sometimes jam right in the jingle zone where it hurts. I've just listened to The Water and now have to come to grips with hailing him as an actual genius. Unsettlingly good in the manner of an Elvis Costello. Heartbreaking, ferociously precise pop that churns over the zeitgeist without stumbling. I will have to listen to this one a few more times but after just one airing I can tell you I have not been this impressed with a complete album in some time. It's an obvious stab at mainstream success and I think this time he's nailed it. Not a crappy track to speak of. Consider downloading it from iTunes. The import price is steep here."
