CD Reviews

Look, I wrote a review!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"So, these guys are some of the nicest guys ever. Yet considering that niceties have nothing to do with musical ability, I'll do my best to be objective concerning the record. This is one of those CD's that you would put in after a long day to calm you down...but not to put you to sleep; to reflect, but not to drown your sorrows. It's melancholy without being sad, if that makes any sense - and conversely, content without ever being happy. The music is sometimes aggressive and almost bitter in tone, but just like it's softer moments, always controlled. Most compelling is the inclusion of a trumpet - rather than being cloying or formulaic, the instrument is used sparingly and adds dimensionality. I also enjoyed the vocals - lead singer Pat Ford's voice has a subtle resonance that adds both longing and, as an interesting counterpart, emotional distance to his lyrics. Overall, a great CD - different without trying to be."
Pat Ford Gave Me The Finger

"Any student of St Ed's can attest to the godliness of a Mr Pat Ford. I remember having him for a Chemistry sub my junior year of high school, and he made fun of Chip Spangler pretty hard. You see, Chip looked up to Pat as a god of sorts, and yet although Pat was Chip's god, Chip could never attain that level of godliness.I also remember when Pat subbed for my gym class, and he played basketball with us. Man, he would run over 16 year old kids just to get that ball! Kudos, sir, kudos.Overall, this is a good CD by what hopefully will be a long-lived and prolific band. Six songs just aren't enough."
