"The band that Hole strives for. Thalia Zedek's dark vocals never strain for effect but echo the desperation of the lyrics perfectly. Chris Brokaw's guitar playing is perfect - the way it just falls out from the wall of sound in "Sad Eyes" is stunning. And the Johnston/O'Brien rhythm section nails the stop/start time of the songs to bracing effect"
Best Record of the 1990's

"I believe this was the best record produced of any sort in the decade of the 1990's. There is no more perfect music to listen to. I can't add any words that the reviewers have not already used... raw... beautiful... intense. Drawn from the Rock and Blues aesthetics... perfected. Buy it now."
SAVE EARLY 90s INDIE ROCK

"I bought this record, used, from Rhino Records while visiting a friend in New Paltz, NY the fall of 2002, ten years after this album's release. Being my first semester of college, I needed to hear some solid college indie-rock I hadn't heard in high school. Not impressed with Modest Mouse or the new Sleater-Kinney at the time, I turned to the stuff that came before my time.
This album not only met my expectations, it made me a huge fan of Thalia Zedek's work prior, as well as her incredible solo albums. It's not happy music by any means. It's rather dark, very bluesy and, if you're a whiskey drinker, will certainly help you get in the mood while drinking after being bummed out or pissed off about who-knows-what.
"Off To One Side" into "Bell" changed the way I view music. This album had a similar affect on me the way Slint's Spiderland did, that dark, late-night, one-lamp-turned-on-in-the-room feel. Please check it out and help in sharing this forgotten music!"
Feel the pain

"Eleven:Eleven is an amazing album. Every song is a dark and intense stew of hellish blues, relentlessly driven by an aggressive double-guitar attack---all anchored by a rhythm section capable of starting and stopping on a dime.
If that doesn't work for you try this: it's what would have happened if Pink Floyd recorded Animals on heroin instead of acid.
If it's not available here, try to get it from Matador directly or from your local used music shop. Definitely worth the effort of seeking it out."
