CD Reviews

Great

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Besides the outstanding value, i very much enjoy the conducting. It is one of my favorite Bach performance that i have ever heard. Something about the orchestra and conducting just appeals to me and i appreciate the playing and conducting immensely. The quality is a little less clear than most modern CD's, as it is remastered from analog tapes, though it isn't unbearable by any means. I highly reccomend this collection."
Bach's Orchestral Works: A good choice

(4 out of 5 stars)

"General categorization: CD box-set with the 4 orchestral suites, the 6 Brandenburg Concertos and concertos for violin and harpsichord of Johann Sebastian Bach.-

Performance: well equilibrated. Not with the frenzy or virtuosic style of "epoch" performances. All the instruments merge together in orchestral unity.-

Sound quality: good (for an analogical original version).-

Add-ons: booklet of 6 pages in English listing the tracks of the CDs and with a three-page introduction to the works.-

Comments: If you like orchestral Bach and would like to have a good performance at bargain price all in one set this is for you. It is a good choice if you're in process of knowing Bach's works. Or if you like to submerge yourself into more than 5 hours of good music.-"
Straightforward, powerful, the music flows well, delightfull

"This is a German style recording, with power and precision, using modern instruments. The tempos are a little slower than one would expect from "historically informed" performances, but do an excellent job of driving the music. All the counterpoint lines are clearly articulated, and often have a singing quality. It has solid bass lines to anchor everything, something often lacking in "authentic" performances. Unlike some "baroque" performances that make Bach sound like Telemann, this one highlights the fact that Bach was the towering genius, far above and beyond any of the other composers of that era."
