"All the music on this disc was either composed or transcribed by the famous Romanian pianist, Dinu Lipatti. Lipatti's playing was legendary. Music making doesn't reach higher levels than those demonstrated in his too few recordings. But his compositional skills were also considerable as this disc so richly shows. The Concertino is a piece which shows many influences ranging from Bach to Stravinsky and the affecting Nocturne in F sharp minor owes a debt to Poulenc and Faure. Nevertheless, the voice in all the works is Lipatti's, and it is a voice that shows a talented composer striving, often successfully, to achieve his own style. The Bach transcriptions are a delight. The performances are first rate, full of spirit, clarity, and animation. There is an old recording floating around of Lipatti playing his Concertino and the Sonaa for the Left Hand, but the sound quality is quite poor."
Wonderful compositions.

"Dinu Lipatti was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th Century (or any other century for that matter). Before tragically dying at the young age of 33 he was also on his way of becoming a very accomplished composer. The quality of the works presented on this CD more than proves this point. Highly recommended to any music lover not afraid of embarking on this well rewarded journey of discovery."
