Intense Drama

"Itzhak Perlman gives what my wife calls a very dramatic performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto from 1967 with Alfred Wallenstein conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. If you like pathos and drama (as I do) then this is the recording for you. My wife prefers Jascha Heifetz's rendition on: Brahms, Tchikovsky: Violin Concertos to Perlman's rendition, however I feel that it is too stately and that this piece needs to be played with a "heart on your sleeve" approach.



The fillers are equally wonderful, full of the same drama that is in the Concerto recording even though they are by different conductors and orchestras.



The sound that the Chesky label provides is, as always, outstanding. The difference between the gold disc and a regular disc is noticeable, but not dramatic(!).



Highly recommend for those who love the Romantic era and a strong sense of drama."
