Like Toots Thielemans, clarinet virtuoso Walter Boeykens is one of the few Belgians who have achieved world fame in music. On this vintage recording, Boeykens tackles some seldom-played but fascinating 20th century repertoire. Both the neo-classicism of Marcel Poot & Jean Françaix, and the dodecaphony of August Verbesselt, reflect the 19th century tradition, but also react against its pathos. Recorded with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Belgian Radio in the famous acoustic of the Flagey building in Brussels.
