"I've been a Maria Joao and Mario Laginha fan eversince their debut album in 1994 "dancas" came out. "Cor" (portuguese for colour) however is - in my opinion - their best work.
The piano melodies played by Laginha are simply perfect, and Maria Joao's voice is a blessing to the World. They're both Portuguese musicians, where they are popular in the Jazz circuit. In fact their music can be found in music stores everywhere in Portugal, on the jazz section.
But i would say it goes beyond it. I'm a jazz addict, don't get me wrong; what i mean is that this music has a lot o influences. Don't excpect it to be old fashioned standard Jazz music.Expect something unexpected, with stunning scat singing, powerful mellow melodies and beautyfull piano playing.Definately a must have!Don't miss their last two works: "Mumadji", (2000) and the 2002 "Undercovers"."
