Fine recording

"My personal award for the best-ever recording of Corelli concerti grossi goes to Jeanne Lamon and the Tafelmusik Ensemble from Canada, but unfortunately they only ever recorded a selection of six of the twelve concerti (for BMG on their Deutsche Harmonia Mundi label). But possibly next down the list comes the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra directed by Nicholas McGegan with a very clean, well-recorded issue that allows you to hear the interplay of the violins and other instruments very clearly. The playing appears occasionally to be a little mannered, and I am not sure that the tempi are always what Corelli envisioned (I think McGegan tends to play a little too fast), but on the whole this is a fine recording (that was available at a much more expensive price for a number of years before it was re-released at the Classical Express price)."
