CD ReviewsBluegrass-influenced mountain music of great beauty Mr. M. Thomas | Newton Abbot, Devon United Kingdom | 07/17/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "I'm giving this four stars, but if we had more resolution I'd go for about 4.4. I like this CD a lot. It contains some really strong original songs. CW says that the mountains of Northern California are her favourite environment, and I think this shows through in the songs here. These songs are strong, independent, and have a rugged beauty. Vocals are sensitive when required, but quite powerful at other times. The melodies are clearly in the country or bluegrass genre, but they pay homage to the established styles rather than falling into cliches. The acoustic instrumental playing is of the highest calibre, with excellent contributions from all concerned. I'd recommend this CD. It's more original than most bluegrass, and more earthy than almost all the country you will have heard before." Beautiful Angel made my day. Sarah-Jane Thornton | Midlands, UK | 06/07/2006 (5 out of 5 stars) "Driving along, radio on, nothing much then this truly beautiful song washes over me. I get home, stop the car to urgently surf and track the Angel down - Corinne West, never heard of her. Placed my order 5 mins later, what do I know about 'country music'. CD arrived today, still listening first time to it. She's outstandingly poignant and I thank my lucky stars I happened upon her music. Such a joyous occasion when you 1st hear music you just know you're goin to still be lovin' in years to come. I know this is an uneducated review but its from the heart. Someone else will write a review to do her justice. Just buy this as soon as you can, you won't regret it!!" Original, fresh, exciting, evocative Edward Hanson | Commerce City, Colorado United States | 01/16/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "I first experienced Corinne West and her "Posse" live at Swallow Hill in Denver. I was blown away by the energy, talent, and passion she and her band delivered. Her songwriting blazes and her mandolin player is second to none. Those qualities shine through in her album as well. I can't listen to it without a tear or two as she sings about place, people, feelings, and experiences. I love that she sets some of her work in her home area of the California Sierra Nevada mountains. My favorite on this album is "Road Work Ahead". I highly recommend her work. I just purchased her second album and can't wait to hear it."
