"This album represents the last one in this Swiss trio career. Their final selftitled album, "Coroner"is not a best-of compilation, nor a new full-length album. It does have new songs actually, but it also features some songs from their previous releases with some rarities all mixed up as well. You'll notice in this album how the band's approach "evolved" through the years. "Evolved" is the proper definition, because they've become better musicians. from their early days with that old school thrash-metal, in albums such "R.I.P." or "Punishment for decadence", to their latest releases, in which the band sounds more refined and polished daring to experiment within and beyond the genre's boundaries and creating their own style, without selling out, and without leaving the musical quality or brutality behind nor the originality.



Old or New Coroner, the heart and soul is the same; besides, you shouldn't expect the band to do the same for ten years. They've been one of the most technical thrash-metal bands.



This album is great to give you a glimpse into Coroner's world.

If you're an all time fan I'd totally recommend it, but if you aren't, go for "Punishment for decadence", their best album and my personal favorite.



Song by song:

1) and 5) - New intros or instrumentals. Pretty short so,nothing much to say about them.

2) and 3) - New songs. Mid tempo, very heavy in the vein of "Mental Vortex" songs. With an empowered and strengthened sound.

4) - Taken from the "Grin" album, now in a shortened version.

6) - the opening track of "Mental Vortex". A Killer song, fast very heavy. A classic and a personal favorite.

7) - Another new song. This is a 3:30-instrumental, with calm and tranquil atmospheres. Not heavy at all but still worth the listen.

8) - An unreleased cover, recorded during the "Grin" sessions. Coroner playing some rock ' n' roll!

9) - Taken from "No More Color". A strange song, with lots of changes of rhythms and riffs. An instrumental with background vocals.

10) - From their debut album "R.I.P.". Very fast and powerful, with Coroner's typical hard-riffing and intensity. Old-school-like.

11) and 12) - Two new songs. In the vein of the first two songs of the album. The second part is an instrumental version of the first part with some different arrangements.

13) - What can I say about this song? "Punishment for decadence" was the album that got me into Coroner. A classic song from a classic album.

14) - A Beatles' cover, taken from "Mental Vortex". Again, Coroner's sense of humour on the table.

15) - KMFDM?, Rob Zombie?, Ministry? No, just Coroner remixing !!! This is a remix of the original version in the "Grin" album. This is an extended, electronic, techno and pop version. Maybe, not the fans' favorite but still worth checking out.

16) - Jimmy Hendrix's song in its Radio Live Cut version. This version is different from the one in "Punishment for decadence".



Instrumentals, covers, remixes, new songs.



Like I said before, all these songs show how their music changed through the years, how much they dared to experiment , how good they were, and, what is most important, talented musicians all together that made of Coroner one of the gretest thrash metal bands ever, with nothing to envy to bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Overkill or Testament, despite the final considerations of this album (due to the fact that is not a regular album neither a best - of...).

"Other than the re-released material, this CD shows Coroner's growth in songwriting. Even the "lighter" material is still heavy. Shifter is the second heaviest song in the Coroner catalogue. The re-releases are the result of the lost star."
