Synopsis

Album Description
This Singapore-born, Berklee-educated songwriter combines the haunting otherworldliness of artists like Sarah McLachlan and Sting with the open veracity of Joni Mitchell. The result is Corrinne May's stunning self-titled release. May's voice is instantly intoxicating - beautiful and adept, but never needlessly showy. Her melodies slide elegantly through well-executed, smart arrangements. Even though one track, the lovely "If You Didn't Love Me", was co-written by Carole King and Carole Bayer Sager, May's solely self-penned songs stand on their own as solid, engaging examples of writing. "Stay on the Road" and "All that I Need" are lush driven pop while "Mr. Beasley" and the sweet opener "Fly Away" are piano adorned folk gems. With her hopeful, fluid lyrics and heavenly voice, this is a touching, enchanting record. - Performing Songwriter Magazine, August 2002

True Gem

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Corrinne May's CD is a true gem. At first, it took me sometime to get used to a more covered, though smooth and beautiful, voice since it's not the current fashion. But Corrinne transcends current fashion in every way. This CD is full of powerful, emotional, meaningful songs that are beautifully performed. The topics of my favorites include the bitter-sweet nature of the eventual separation of mother and daughter (Fly Away), a hopeful way of looking at separated loved ones (Same Side of the Moon), the chances you need to take to achieve your dreams (Fall to Fly), the gentle encouragement of a woman telling her man to `just be yourself' (Mr. Beasley), a woman imploring her friend to leave an abusive relationship (Walk Away), and quiet acknowledgment of the trials of life with a request for God's companionship along the way (Journey). The best way I know to convey the essence of Corrinne is to say that she would be a great addition to a Lilith Fair type of line-up - good musicians with meaningful work that seems to speak to everyone in some way. If you like female singer-songwriters this is a MUST purchase. I promise it will be immediately become your favorite CD of the day, and one of the CDs that you keep when you come back to AMAZON in ten years to sell off all the disappointments you've collected."

"While on a Christmas vacation in Singapore, I accidentally caught an in store performance of Corrine May at Borders. Didn't know who she was at that time so I just continued shopping and ignored her show. However, being enchanted by her music was inevitable and inescapable. The songs she performed in the store (also featured on the CD) are very very beautiful pop gems. Miss May's original music reminds me of the pretty melodies of pop classics by Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Webb, Rupert Holmes, Carly Simon and of course the great Carol King. It is very refreshing to hear music that is not apologetic or shy about pretty melodies. Hopefully, her label can also get this album released in the Philippines. For sure, it'll be a hit here knowing the Filipinos penchant for heartwarming melodies and lyrics....It's been 2 years now since that Borders Promo launch.....Corrine, it's time to come up with a new album. Your fans are waiting!!!"

"Every Once in a While a very special cd comes along and this cd definitely fits that category.. Every song on this album is magnificent, from the title track, "Fly Away", to the last song,
"Mr. Beasly" unplugged. Corrinne May, the artist not only wrote all the songs, but performs them in a style that will hold up to any singer, past, present, or very possibly future. She has chosen to remain an independent artist, that is, not signing with any record label,a reason many people have never heard of her,If I sound crazy, just go to her website, corrinnemay.com, and from there, you will be able to listen to this album before
you invest your hard earned dollars.. on a scale of 1-5, this cd is a 10!! E-mail me if you think I'm wrong.. Enjoy!!"
