Synopsis

Product Description
The long-awaited new album by Corrinne May "Safe in a Crazy World" features 10 new songs from the pianist and singer-songwriter. The album has more of the touching piano ballads Corrinne is known for, such as "Safe in a Crazy World", "Everything in its Time" and "Every Beat of My Heart". There is also a Birthday Song for those who dread the thought of growing older, simply titled "The Birthday Song" However, the standout track in this album is one simply titled "Free". A lovely gem of a pop song with a serious anthem of a chorus.

CD Reviews

Great CD!!
btnagle | Washington, DC | 04/26/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Sometimes when I enjoy someone's music, I can't really tell people why. I just know that I like it. But, I knew why I liked Corrinne May the first time I heard her. One, her songs are very emotional and have great depth. Two, she knows (either intuitively or on purpose) how to let a song express itself.

On this CD, my favorite song right now is "Safe in a Crazy World." Towards the end of the song, the music and her voice become very quiet (almost to a whisper)--it's really the perfect way to finish up the song. A lot of artists would have ended the song in a huge crescendo and used their voice to overpower the song. Or, some singers would use a lot of affectations. That just would not be the best way to interpret a song like "Safe..." I just appreciate artists that can interpret songs so that how they perform it matches the emotion of the song. I think Corrinne May does that.

I just received the CD so I'm still figuring out my favorites in addition to "Safe in a Crazy World." I do enjoy "Every Beat of My Heart," and "The Birthday Song." Overall, though, I'm just enjoying the CD and hope that more people have the opportunity to hear it."
Songs that are true to herself
Gerald Khoo | Singapore | 06/14/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"After her first release in the self-titled album, Corrinne May, which had great success, it is often hard to follow in the footsteps of the first success. However, this album has not disappointed, and it is great listening from start to end. Corrinne has stayed true to herself, the kind of music she writes, and not try to imitate someone else to achieve greater success.

Corrinne writes her songs with honesty and soul, searching and discovering as she walks through life's journey with Christ, and it comes forth through the lyrics and the soulful melodies. The words are deep with meaning and reflection, and it is great to listen and reflect on your life's journey with these songs as well.

One of the songs I like is Free, and this is how it starts... "I see the morning glory, It winds upon thee, It tells the untold story of how things were meant to be, You saw the universe, Caught up in desperate dreams, You came and changed the ending, Changed it to save my fate, You led the revolution, You left your legacy, Embraced the struggle, In the face of mortality, I know I'm not alone in this, Help me believe... I can be free...""
Moving and Optimistic Music....

"Corrinne May I got to know through Vienna Teng- because she was a similar artist to Vienna. I disagree with it somewhat though- her and Vienna are pretty different with both their lyrics and music itself. And although I love Vienna I have to admit Corrinne has very much grown on me as well. She has some great lyrics- because they are optimistic and loving. She brings a great warmth to my c.d. collection. After a hard day especially her music is what I turn to first, and makes me smile. Her voice is very lovely and her talent in making music is very obvious.

This is a very underrated artist. More should know her. I recommended her to a friend and she was just so surprised she never heard of her before since she likes her so much now- and that's the point- if people would look outside the superficials walls of Mtv they would find Corrinne May and others of course but I'm sure May would be much loved. I know I am happy I discovered her! I prefer her sophmore over her first though, although both are lovely albums. Her second though is just so addictive- I highly recommend this if you're into female piano- driven artists- or female musicians in general. May is one to know.

Here's a review for Safe In A Crazy World:

1)Little Superhero Girl- A- great, powerful lyrics, the piano is just magic, and sing sings it all so well. Awesome song- I can totally relate to it. I heard she got the inspiration for this song from a Powerpuff Girl cartoon- it just makes the song even more likeable.

2)Save Me- A- Very good song I really enjoy it. It is going along the same steady pace as Superhero, and May's vocals are very lovely in this song.

3)Free- A- (This counts for both the long and radio edit version that is at the end of this album)- Wow May's voice is amazing in this song. She sings this song just right, and the piano fits well right in there. A little more softer and slower than the others- but just as strong.

4)Everything In Its Time- B+- This song pales compared to the other three, yet it is in no way weak. She sings it well and the lyrics have a wisdom to them.

5)Safe In A Crazy World- A- This has to be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I absolutely love it. The slow, soft piano, the heartfelt singing, and the sweet lyrics all add up to an amazingly powerful song.

6)Let It Go- A- I like how the c.d. picks up from here again from its slow pace with such ease so the c.d. isn't in no danger of dragging. The beginning starts off slow yet solid, and then in the chorus it picks up with some great background following her vocals. The lyrics on this song are very well- written.

7)Angel In Disguise- B+- How I love the lyrics in this song. It is amazing how May can give you such a light heart, especially in this song. This song has gotten me through some bad days successfully. It is a well- paced song and yet it is not her strongest musically compared to her others on here- but the lyrics are some of the best on the album.

8)If I Kissed You- A- Probably my fave song on here. I love it, love it, love it. The lyrics, the way the song is sung, the way the song is made. It's all awesome and fast- paced and an overall cuteness laced in.

My fave line: Would you run naked in the street with a tattoo of my name on your behind- if I kissed you?

9)The Birthday Song- B+- This song had to grow on me. It is much slower and yet it is such a tender, loving song and she sings it so well. I grew into it but it is not her strongest on here. It's still a lovely song though.

10)Every Beat of My Heart- A- The piano is gorgeous in this song, I absolutely love how she sings the song as well. Soft, slow, and very touching song. What a great ending to this album especially lyric- wise.

Overall I give the c.d. a 4.5/ 5. Very good album altogether. I love listening to it and hope in the future Corrinne May does get more well- known."
